The Central - Gateshead
2025-09-05
Address: Half Moon Ln, Gateshead NE8 2AN
Pouring from: 8ish taps and 5ish casks
We drank: Goats Head by Otherworld, Wylam Gold by Wylam, and an IPA by Stu Brew
Grade II listed Victorian building with 2 separate indoor bars and areas and a rooftop area. Really nice and warm pub interiors with bold colours. Comfortable leather benches and plenty of tables. We sat in the front section of the small bar surrounded by 5 huge windows looking out over a square-y thing (and busy road). Could maybe do with a lick of paint tho.
Amazing beer selection of local breweries and more. Beer quality of the casks (first 2) were excellent, but unfortunately the IPA was definitely spoiled. It tasted like baaaad butterscotch. Unfortunately really left a bad taste in our mouth - especially as a last beer leaving the place.
Food-wise they serve Pork Pies, Sausage Rolls, and Scotch Eggs. Served with various sauces and piccalilli.
We had one scotch egg each: a scotch bonnet one and a black pudding one (there were vege and traditional options too). Both great, but the scotch bonnet one won out.
