The Church Pub - Christchurch
2026-03-09
Address: 124 Worcester Street, Christchurch Central City, Christchurch 8011, New Zealand
Pouring from: 10 kegs
We drank: Bookbinder and Orange Roughy by Emerson's
Set up mid 2023 in an old chapel on the outskirts of Christchurch central, The Church Pub provides a unique drinking experience. The bulk of the churchy things are still present: stained glass windows, organs, exceedingly high ceilings, and various plaque-y things with gold lettering.
The seating was a bit disappointing. It was pretty standard pub setup with a lot of exposed tables and stools - not the most comfortable and a missed opportunity to run with the church aesthetic and add cosy pew corners instead.
The beer was served in proper pint glasses, a real rarity in NZ, which we loved. Beer tasted great and wasn't tooooo expensive (£7 a pint).
We arrived at 2.30pm on a Monday and were very happy to see it actually relatively busy with a nice little buzz.
Music was filled with kiwi classics. Major improvement over other places we've been too.
I got a fish and chips as part of an £8 lunch deal. Tasted alright but quite a bit too oily. Was appropriate size for the price (head and shoulders above sizes in the UK, but that's a different thing).
