The Market Cat - York
2025-04-07
Address: 6 Jubbergate, York YO1 8RT
Pouring from: 7 casks and 14 taps (-ish), half of which were Thornbridge
We drank: Lord Marple by Thornbridge, Pale Rider by Kelham Island Brewery (delish), another ale, and half a moderately expensive strawberry pale ale on tap.
The 3 stories provide different areas for different activities. Bar downstairs, pub-y/dining-y first floor and a look out (and toilets) top floor. Particularly for the lower floor, the interior is heavy on dark wood paneling and mirrors, with a semi circular bar on the ground floor, and efficient, friendly service.
Serves pizza which looked and smelled good, but we didn't try any.
We came on a Monday and the number of people, service, "vibe" of the whole place was fantastic. However, we get the feeling on a Saturday, with its location (actually on Shambles Market), one might not have quite the same experience - perhaps filled with annoying tourists and young drunk people.
