The Pickle Jar - Wellington
2026-03-15
Address: 5 Parkvale Road, Karori, Wellington 6012, New Zealand
Pouring from: 10ish kegs
We drank: a delicious Pilsner, a hazy pale, a house lager, and a Speights.
As we have come to re-remember the quality and variety of craft beer in NZ is just better than in the UK. This great little local is serving 9 different craft beers from various local breweries. All that we tried were great and the price was good too. Were we to find this pub into the UK we'd be lucky to get 1 craft (beyond the Neck Oil which people seem to think counts).
We can't quite figure out the interior. The entrance is weirdly off to the side, there's avocado everywhere, and the seating feels a bit cheap. Music was really poor, more than usual. However catching the afternoon sun in the outdoor area was lovely.
Seemed to be pretty popular for food, but we didn't try.
Update
Came back again for another beer and unfortunately one of them was off. Not butterscotch notes, but butterscotch mouthfuls. When you come across a pub serving this, it really brings into question their care for beer. Did anyone even taste it?
