Elmers End to Catford

2025-10-18

Total Distance: 6.5km

Difficulty: Easy

Getting There: Tram to Elmers End

An easy walk starting from one of the ends of tram line - making it relatively easy to get to (presuming you live somewhere near a tram line and can time the Elmers End one).

The worst part of the walk is the start - you need to cross the surprisingly busy Elmers End Road immediately after getting off the tram.

From there, head north through a dog park and down some quiet roads towards Clock House. We stopped off at the Three Hounds Beer Co. as a 1/3rd pit-stop. 100% worth checking out. Served some great beer.

There, continue meandering north through a couple of parts and along Pool River. There's about 10 minutes of walking through a very industrial area until you reach Lower Sydenham train station.

From the station, there's a cycle path that meets up with the Pool River again after about another 10 minutes. This last section down Pool River (called something odd like "Pool River Linear Park") is very nice. There was some bird life, people walking dogs, everyone enjoying themselves etc.

The park ends right at the Catford Bridge train staion - and the very handily placed Catford Bridge Tavern which of course we checked out (they had a beer festival on).

Overall Comments

Good walk and would do again probably. Not a whole lot of nature, but there was enough greenery to make up for it.
